Doug Hannon's Field Guide for Bass Fishing
Published in Paperback by Great Outdoors Pub Co (October, 1983)
Authors: R. Douglas Hannon, Douglas Hannon, and W. Horace Carter
Average review score:

Higher learning from the Bass Professor!
Hand's down, this has to be the best reference manual for Bass fishing ever to be published. Whether you are just starting out, or a pro on the circuit, you will learn to catch the lunker you have always dreamed of, or you will atleast avoid the embarassment of coming home empty handed. At first I was skeptical, and had no prior knowledge of Doug Hannon until a friend of mine told me about the Bass Professor. His book has truly shed a whole new light on my thought process of Bass fishing! It has a quick on the water reference section to tell you when to use what type of lure, and under what conditions. This is a must have book! This will be the best small investment that you have ever made, if you are truly serious about Bass fishing!

Dr Kellon's Guide to First Aid for Horses
Published in Spiral-bound by Breakthrough Pub (December, 1992)
Authors: El Kellon, Eleanor Kellon, Tricia Booker, and Kip Carter
Average review score:

Essential for the Responsible Owner/Rider/Caretaker
Dr. Eleanor Kellon has written a concise, well-organized, and comprehensive guide for first aid treatment in emergencies that warrant a call to the veterinarian. She organizes injuries and conditions into major categories such as wounds/bleeding, burns, colic, lameness, heat stoke, head/neck/eyes, shock, foaling/newborns, and drug reactions. This allows the reader to quickly and easily access the pertinent chapters. Within each of these categories, she identifies the items for a first aid kit, further defines specific conditions/injuries, explains the symptoms or causes, and outlines the first aid treatment. Dr. Kellon also rates the emergency nature of each condition/ injury. The guide also contains useful appendices (general signs of serious illness, signs of adequate tranquilization, bandaging, giving injections, administering eye medications).

This manual is not intended to be a complete equine medical guide and does not attempt to be. Rather, Dr. Kellon succinctly presents essential information that, hopefully, the horse owner or sitter will never have to use.

One fact worth noting: although this guide was reprinted in 1999, it was originally written and copyrighted in 1990. Have there been advances in equine emergency medicine in the past ten years to warrant an updated second edition?

A Dream Season
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (April, 1987)
Authors: Gary Carter and John Hough

A Must-Read for ANY Baseball Fan...Especially a Mets Fan!!
I read this book every few years to go back to a time when I first discovered America's past-time. There has never been a more magical team than the New York Mets in 1986. It was more than the play everyone remembers--the ball Mookie Wilson's hit that rolled between Bill Buckner's legs when he "peeked" at Mookie hustling down the line. That play was symballic of the entire Mets playoff run. As you read this book, you sit beside Gary Carter during each game of the Mets/Astros NL Series and the Mets/Red Sox World Series. You get a true behind-the-scenes picture of what happens in the dugout, on the field, and in the clubhouse. Any baseball fan, whether or not you love the mets, will love this book.

An Eagle Nation (Sun Tracks, Vol 24)
Published in Hardcover by University of Arizona Press (August, 1993)
Author: Carter Revard
Average review score:

One of the best books I've read in years. . .
Revard is a wonderful storyteller, yet his poems are lyrical and beautifully wrought. His range is impressive--whether he's writing about the Oklahoma of his childhood, his years in England, or medieval monsters, the poems are always compelling, the voice in them engaging. I would recommend this book not only to avid poetry readers but to anyone who likes a good story.

Earlier Than You Think: A Personal View of Man in America
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (October, 1980)
Author: George F. Carter
Average review score:

Excellent text on Paleo-Indians and state of archeology.
This excellent semi-autobiographical book not only uses sound science to explain the author's alternative view of Pre-columbian America and Southern California pre-history in particular, but also reveals the petty in-fighting used by the archeological establishment in order to maintain the status quo to their benefit. For decades, Carter has argued that the first Americans were here earlier than anyone had surmised including his mentors. While Carter has slowly watched the official entry date drop back from 5,000 to 25,000+ years, few in the archaeological establishment like to admit that he championed these dates decades ago. In fact, they seem to go out of their way to try to debunk him using only unscientific ad hominem attacks. While his 100,000+ years for human and pre-human occupation may seem a little wild at first, this book successfully explains mostly in layman's terms why he believes this. His geologist's background and unending curiosity allowed him to see evidence where others' untrained eyes saw only a few broken rocks. The book is filled with charming anecdotes about archaeological digs Carter has worked on and infuriating tales about how the establishment has sought to quiet him. Although he did not personally work on it, the Calico site in California is included for reference and is the only site in North America that famed archaeologist Dr. Louis Leakey supervised. The book is an easy read for most people and especially interesting because of the recently unearthed and controversial burials that only add credence to Carter's theories.

I read it and was astounded. It is today and the millinnium
This book is one of the best in the 'Edgar Cayce on' series and should be put back in print, on the bookstands, etc. Much of EC's prophecies will be seen as the millinnium unfolds and Mary Ellen's book 'EC on Prophecy' gave us a preview.

El santo grial
Published in Paperback by Edimat Libros (2000)
Author: Carter Scott
Average review score:

Inimaginable

Electronic Highway Robbery: An Artist's Guide to Copyrights in the Digital Era
Published in Paperback by Peachpit Press (July, 1996)
Author: Mary E. Carter
Average review score:

A Must Read for everyone involved in web page design
Finally a book on copyright for the web written in right-brain language that a non-lawyer can understand.

The web is the modern day equivilant to the Old Wild West in which images are freely copied, modified and redistributed, all over the world, where they might be seen, and re-used by portentially millions of people. The rights of the individual author and artist are blatantly disregarded, to some extent because of willful disregard for the property of others, but mostly because of ignorance. The notion that the web is for everybody is all the justification some people need to plunder your images.

This book explains our rights and copyrights as artists, designers, and content providers and tells in plain words what we can do to protect ourselves from being the victims of web crimes.

Mary Carter's strength is in her ability to condense large mountains of infomation into small bitesized bits of information.

This book is extremely well written, and unlike most books written by lawyers, it is written with wit and charm.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
